(1) Make sure you have Quicktime on this computer
Try this particularly if you get an error message that suggests your computer doesn't have Quicktime for Windows!

(2) Change the default programs
(2a) Here's How:
(2b) Find the right extensions
Set it so that files with these extensions are ALWAYS opened in QuickTime: .MOV for videos ("films") maybe also .WAV for sounds There are many other programs that open videos and sound files, but. Early Start videos can ONLY to be opened by QuickTime. If another user or application has chosen a different preferred program - often Windows Media Player - the Early Start disc won't work. |
(3) Check the AUTOPLAY settings
What happens when you first insert the disc? If the computer starts running Windows Media Player (or something like that), change the AutoPlay option in the Control Panel to 'Open folder to view files. |
Important: Whatever program used to automatically open when these types of files were launched will still open these types of files. To use another program, you'll just need to start the program manually and then browse your computer for the particular file.
(4) Check your sound output settings
If there's no sound or pictures, simply try playing another CD or DVD - do the sound and picture display OK?
(5) Try 'Compatibility mode' in Windows 7
To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the icon for the program, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab.
This setting runs the program using settings from a previous version of Windows, which may be helpful to HyperStudio (we use an older version of this American authoring program because of the lovely functionality it offers for language learning and multimedia).
(6) Try downloading the latest Hyperstudio player
Download "Hyperstudio 4.5 player" which it tells you is compatible with Windows 7 and 8.http://www.mackiev.com/support_hswin.html
(this is free; you just have to register your details with Software Mackiev (no obligations or spam will result) and they send you an email with a link to the download)
